Huascarán 80k 2-Day Stage and Relay

The ultimate trail run of the andes

The Huascarán 80k 2-Day Stage Run and Relay will connect our Pisco 30k route with the Santa Cruz 45k for one unforgettable trail run through the Cordillera Blanca. With three major high mountain pass crossings along some of the most scenic and popular trails in Huascarán National Park, this event in worth putting on your calendar today.
This 80k route will be divided into two difficult days. Day 1 will begin in the popular Llangaunco Valley and will cover 35k, cross two high mountain passes, and descend to the small town of Vaqueria where runners will stop for the night. Day 2 will run the famous and remote Santa Cruz trekking route over Punta Union Pass and back down to the western side of the Cordillera Blanca.
There are two options for running the Huascaran 80k 2-Day, as an individual running both days or as a relay team of two runners splitting the two days.

Race day

The 2018 Huascarán 80k Stage Run will begin at 7:00am on August 10 at the far west end of Laguna Chinancocha (first Llanganuco Lake) in the Llanganuco Valley. This is roughly a 2.5 hour drive from Huaraz and transportation to and from the event is included. The first day begins as a lollipop loop that climbs to Pisco Basecamp and Refugio Peru before taking a high traverse to Laguna 69 and descends back down to the Llangaunco Valley floor. From Cebollapampa runners will climb up one more high mountain pass, Portachuelo, before descending to Vaqueria and the Illariy Lodge for the night.

Day 2 will begin at 6:00am at the Illariy Lodge on the eastern side of the Cordillera Blanca. The race course will cross over the continental divide and finish by running through the famous Santa Cruz Valley on the western side of the Range in the small town of Cashapampa (above Caraz). There will be food and refreshments available for all racers at the finish in Cashapampa with an awards ceremony in the afternoon for top finishers. There will be shuttles back to Huaraz following the ceremony. Please see the itinerary below for a more detailed outline of the event.

* Please note for safety reasons there will be an overall time limit of 11 hours to complete Day 1 and 12 hours to complete Day 2. There will also be a cutoff time of 3 hours to Aid Station 2 (Refugio Peru) and 9 hours to Aid Station 5 (Portachuelo) on Day 1. There will be two cutoff times before Punta Union Pass on Day 2- 5 hours to Aid Station 3 and 6 hours to the top of Punta Union. In the event that you are unable to make these first two cutoff times you will be asked turn around and return to the starting line. Transportation and staff will be there to make sure you make it back to Huaraz safely. There will be horses sweeping the route and giving rides to those who are unable to complete the route in the allotted amount of time.

All overnight baggage will be transported from Vaqueria to the finish in Cashapampa. Space is limited on this bus so please try to keep the luggage you bring to Vaqueria to a minimum. Please do not bring all of your vacation luggage. Most hotels in Huaraz are able to store your bags for you while you are gone for a couple of days.

Lodging / camping in Vaqueria

One night of lodging in Vaqueria is included in the price of the race. The Illariy Lodge is fairly small though and beds are available on a first come first serve basis to the first 20 entrants of the race. These beds are not guaranteed to be in your own private room.  Once all of the beds have been claimed runners will be required to camp in the designated campground on the property. Tents will be provided but sleeping bags and pads will not. If you are unable to travel with this camping gear there are many rental options in Huaraz.

transportation Package for non-racers

This Package is available for friends and family members who would like to be at the finish line when their runners arrives.
