Laguna 69 and Pisco Basecamp
Looking for a challenge? With steep up hills, high alpine terrain, great downhills and some of the best scenery in Peru, this race will not disappoint. The Pisco 30k visits two of the most iconic places in Huascarán National Park, Laguna 69 and Pisco Base Camp, and although shorter than the Santa Cruz 45k some might consider it just as difficult. With a steep uphill climb to the Refugio Peru, a high point of 4,900m, and a 5km traverse above 4,600m, this race is not for the faint of heart.
The 2019 Pisco 30k will begin at 7:00am on August 9 at the far west end of Laguna Chinancocha (first Llanganuco Lake) in the Llanganuco Valley. This is roughly a 2.5 hour drive from Huaraz- transportation to and from the event is included in the registration cost. The race course is a lollipop loop that climbs to Pisco Basecamp and Refugio Peru before taking a high traverse to Laguna 69 and descending back down to the Llangaunco Valley floor. There will be food and refreshments available for all racers at the finish with an awards ceremony to follow for top finishers. There will be shuttles back to Huaraz following the ceremony. Please see the itinerary below for a more detailed outline of the event.
* Please note for safety reasons there will be an 8 hour time limit to complete this race. There will also be one cutoff time of 3 hours to Aid Station 2 (Refugio Peru). In the event that you are unable to make this first cutoff time you will be asked turn around and return to the starting line. There will be horses sweeping the route and giving rides to those who are unable to complete the route in the 8 hour time limit.
Transportation Package for Non-Racers
This Package is available for friends and family members who would like to be at the start/finish line to cheer on their runner. Those wanting to spend the day in the beautiful Llanganuco Valley are welcome to ride the bus on the morning of the race with the participants for $15 per person. Tickets need to be purchased ahead of time so that we know how many buses are needed.
